The Row was established in 2006 by Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen. First based out of Los Angeles, the brand grew fast finding its home in New York City. Named in reverence of London’s Savile Row, the fashion house emulates the bespoke institution’s standards of exquisite fabrics, impeccable details and perfect fits. Since its creation, The Row translates these values to its ready-to-wear, handbags, footwear, and eyewear collections. Focusing on exceptional textures and precise tailoring, the house combines a timeless perspective with subtle attitudes, forming an irreverent classic signature. The Row’s collections explore the strength of simplistic shapes that speak to discretion. Based on the idea of designing understated basics to build a unique wardrobe, the house creates elevated essentials that meet uncompromising luxury. In 2009, the Council of Fashion Designers added Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen to their distinguished member roster. Following shortly after in 2012, the CFDA awarded The Row’s designers and founders the Womenswear Designer of the Year, a mere six years after the line’s genesis. In 2014, The Row was presented with the CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year award.
The following year, The Row was honored with a second Womenswear Designer of the Year award in 2015.The Row’s particular perspective on anonymous luxury continues the spirit and beliefs of its founders and designers, resulting in a steady growth as a model of deliberate, organic expansion. The Row opened its first brick and mortar retail location in Los Angeles on Melrose Place in 2014, with a second store in New York City’s Upper East Side in 2016. Each space invites The Row’s customers to experience an intimate and curated environment that celebrates each city, which is reflected in the décor and structure of each retail location. Part of The Row’s mission is to support high-end fashion manufacturing in the United States by producing ready to wear in America. This onsoil manufacturing encourages job creation and craft cultivation, while allowing The Row to maintain, as always, meticulous and measured in serving its clients. Since The Row’s launch the brand has expanded to include a range of footwear and handbags produced in Italy. Like its decisive tastemaker customer, The Row is uncompromising. Staying true to its creative and business development, the brand is now available in 188 exclusive doors in 37 countries.
